What You Should Know about Moving Insurance Empty What You Should Know about Moving Insurance

Moving can be a stressful thing to do. You need to plan a lot of things and you also need to think about your new home and how to adjust to your surroundings. One way to make it less stressful is to get moving insurance for your belonging and properties. Having insurance for your belongings will ensure that your valuables are covered in case they got lost or damaged during the move. You need to get insurance for valuables and expensive belongings like jewelry, state of the art appliances and gadgets, vehicles, heirlooms, and antique furniture.

You can also get insurance for other less important things but their coverage is a little bit lower than the more expensive and valuable properties. To know more about moving insurance, you should read the next few paragraphs in this article.

There are two types of insurance coverage for your belongings that you plan to move. One is the basic liability. The basic liability follows a standard coverage of $.30 to $.60 per pound per object. For instance, if the object weighs 60 pounds, the liability coverage is around $18 to $36. Unfortunately, this type of coverage is not ideal for really expensive items like antique furniture or ultra expensive appliances. More often than not, the liability coverage of these expensive items is much lower than their actual value.
The second type of coverage is the replacement value coverage. This coverage relies on your declared value of the item. If the item got lost, stolen, or broken, the mover has to shoulder the liability. They may need to ask for an outside opinion or appraisal to ensure that your declared value is the right one.

The requirements may vary from state to state. In the state of California household carriers must provide cargo insurance coverage not less than $20,000 per shipment. In Miami Florida moving companies must submit a certificate of insurance as proof of general liability insurance coverage

It is important to create two checklists of all your belongings for you and the movers. You need to review the list with the moving company’s representative before and after the move. In case something is lost or damaged, you will be able to know who is liable. The point of preparing a checklist is not for putting the blame on someone but to make it easier in case you want to file an insurance claim.
Before signing anything related to the move and the insurance, be sure to read everything, even the fine print. Some people skip the fine prints thinking that nothing will happen during the move. It is still best to know what you are getting into before you affix your signature.
Getting a moving insurance will protect you financially in case your belongings and properties got lost or damaged during the move.
